The Evening Assembly

As the light began to soften over the Demerara River, the trees along the riverbank seemed to come alive with white.

Dozens upon dozens of egrets had gathered among the branches, settling in for the evening as the last warmth of the day caught their feathers. Below them, one lone bird stood quietly on the water, almost as though it had missed the gathering above.

Photographed at sunset from the river in Georgetown, Guyana, The Evening Assembly captures one of those unexpected moments that make wildlife photography so rewarding — a scene that feels almost theatrical, yet was simply unfolding naturally before me.

There is something rather lovely about the contrast: the busy congregation in the trees and the solitary figure below, both sharing the same quiet stretch of river as daylight fades.
