After the long quiet of winter, the first butterflies feel almost improbable. One moment the garden still belongs to the cold, and the next a flash of colour drifts past on newly warmed air.
The Peacock butterfly is often one of the earliest to appear in spring, emerging from its winter hiding places when the sun finally begins to carry warmth again. When I photographed this one, it felt like witnessing the first small announcement that the season had changed.
Moments like this are easy to miss. A butterfly settles briefly, opens its wings to the light, and within seconds it may be gone again. Capturing that pause felt like holding on to the very first breath of spring.
